Medicare Rebate

You do not require a referral from your GP to make an appointment with a psychologist. However, if you wish to claim Medicare rebates for your sessions, then you require a referral under a Mental Health Care Plan from your GP, psychiatrist or paediatrician.

All sessions are for 50 minutes – please arrive 5 minutes early for your first appointment as there is paperwork to complete. Fees are $190 per session for registered psychologists and $90 per session for intern psychologists. Please be aware that if you cannot attend, you need to give 12 hours’ notice as a courtesy to us.

HICAPS is available which enables you with efficient and easy payment processing for private health fund claims, Medicare claims and to pay your account by debit or credit card. Ensure your bank account is linked to your Medicare care for easy processing. The Medicare rebate of $90 per session for up to 10 sessions per calendar year. If you have a mental health plan, you pay the treating Psychologist the session fee of $190 on the day of your appointment. We have a EFTPOS machine which accepts all debit and credit cards. We can often process your Medicare or Health Fund claim immediately. If not, you will be issued with a receipt, you then claim the $90 rebate from Medicare/Private Health Funds. Please refer to Medicare fact sheet for further details.
