Medicare Rebate
You do not require a referral from your GP to make an appointment with a psychologist. However, if you wish to claim Medicare rebates for your sessions, then you require a referral under a Mental Health Care Plan from your GP, psychiatrist or paediatrician.
All sessions are for 50 minutes – please arrive 5 minutes early for your first appointment as there is paperwork to complete. Fees are $200 per session for registered psychologists. Please be aware that if you cannot attend, you need to give 12 hours’ notice as a courtesy to us.
Payment following session by cash or EFTPOs. The Medicare rebate is about half our fee per session for up to 10 sessions per calendar year. If you have a mental health plan, you pay the treating Psychologist the session fee of $200 on the day of your appointment. We have a EFTPOS machine which accepts all debit and credit cards. You will be issued with a receipt, you then claim the Medicare rebate from Medicare under My Gov or your Private Health Funds. Please refer to Medicare fact sheet for further details.
Sheridan’s Psychology is also registered with many private health insurance companies. You may be able to receive rebates from your insurance company as an alternative to Medicare rebates (or after Medicare rebates have expired). Please contact your insurance provider to determine whether your level of cover includes Psychology Services. You may also be eligible to claim a percentage of out-of-pocket expenses from your sessions as a tax offset. Please see Government websites, or talk with your accountant, for more information.
